Traditional Indian Lantern

  Diwali!One festival that every member ,every house and every state of India looks forward to celebrate .Many mythological stories  are related to this festival .Brightly lit houses and bomb- bomb noise of fire crackers on streets  and sweet and savory food delicacies is something you cant miss out on.
Diwali means  light  a new beginning and victory thus in every house you may find some trendy lighting and decorative lanterns. 
I wanted to try something traditional, Eco-friendly and arty so here it is traditional Lantern Making.
Articles required:
 Card Paper sheet-white, stapler,fevicol,gelatin paper,kite paper-color of your choice,golden paper.scissor, scale, pencil.

Procedure:
 With the help of scale and pencil draw lines of 2 cm each.Cut these two strips . now form a circle from each strip like shown in the picture below. Thus the base and head of the lantern is ready.

 Now cut 4 more strips of card board of 2 cm each and length of 9 cm each like in the picture below.

 

Attach these four strips to the 2 rings in the form of pillars. this makes the inner structure of the lantern. like the picture below. 

line this base structure with red gelatin paper to pass the bulb light easily.To make a colorful outer structure cut the kite paper in square size of 9 cm each. 

 To make the borders decorative cut the square shapes with zig zag cutting scissors. 

 Now paste any two ends of the square sheet together. Allow to dry and then stick the plain side of the sheet to the lantern . like the picture below. 

 

 I have used different color papers to form a alternate color pattern.

  Finally cut   two golden strips to stick at the head and bottom of the lantern. 

 The golden color paper makes the lantern look more attractive. Also use small square size of golden paper on the closed end of the folded  paper. 

 Now cut streamers from the left out paper to make the tail of the lantern. stick the tails at the base of the lantern in alternate combinations.

  Illuminate it with light bulb connection.

Thus a traditional lantern is ready.

flower art-rangoli

 Hello Readers,

 It has been long time i have made something so fresh, colorful

and peaceful art of flower decoration.
Every diwali I come up with some unique idea but this is with grace of lord vishu
  I was struck with the idea of flower rangoli.
Every time I visit ayyapa temple in my vicinity i find this beautiful arrangement of flower,petals and leaves in the premises. 
the beautiful scent of flowers and  the radiance of   oil lamps  all over the place simply reminds me life can be so peaceful  in its natural form.

Thus I post my Diwali blog on flower rangoli:
Items required: beautiful artifact or a circular flat container, flower of your choice and some foliage available in  your surrounding.
I have used  flowers like gerbera, shevanti, tagar ,purple flowers and small sized green leaves to form a green background.

Cut the flowers stems and remove any damaged  petals.

Half fill the container with water and arrange the flowers to form the border of the the container.

to create a green backdrop i used small leaves allover the water bed .

Now place some bright flowers like i placed Gerbera flowers in different patterns to form different designs.

  We can place small flowers over the center of large flowers to create a contrast effect of colours. picture below explains the same. 

 Thus a beautiful piece of art is ready to decorate your premises on festivals and special occasions.

Below I have tried to make another beautiful flower art on a circular flat  container.Intially fill water into the container and start arranging flowers in circles. Picture below explains the same.

 

Its all your imagination how beautifully you can make a perfect balance of colours and flowers.

I balanced the red colour by forming a circular ring of red petals over the small white( tagar) flowers.

ahhh! one more flower rangoli is ready!

No Cost Magazine Gift Wrap

This month i am posting a quick  yet contemporary method of packaging. 
It was one of colleagues farewell in college.We decided to surprise her with a memorable gift right from the ribbons,packaging and obviously the gift.  

As we all were brain storming in the library something flashed in my eyes. it was the Vogue magazine cover page that my friend was holding in her hands.
This is when i thought why not use these glossy thick paper for wrapping. I used  goggle guru to find such wrapping idea  and yes there were some unique gift wrapping ideas.

Procedure: 
Material Required: Old magazine, tape,ruler,ribbon, gift.

 Select a magazine paper of your choice.

 We selected a black paper for outer cover. The gift wrap was to be designed in a bag shape with the ribbon in center to close the open ends.

  better to wrap the gift in a plastic sheet or a magazine paper to avoid the tape stains on the gift box.

then wrap the gift with a black paper or any bright color paper of your choice.

We found out a sabyasachi advertisement paper which we thought would look classy as main cover.

We wanted a bag shape thus closed one side and left the other side open
 punched two holes at the open end of the wrap.

 Insert a bright ribbon through the holes and tie a knot thus your gift is ready.

 this was my take on  no cost magazine gift wrap .

Button Art

  Monsoon a climate we all mumbaikars waited so long has finally arrived this week. A cool and refreshing  weather to enjoy and blog.
Ohhkk ! Now to talk about my post this month.
As my little one is growing like every  parents we cant stop buying some cute boy wear.but in couple of days these cloths go short for him.
 baby wear generally have such cute and amazing accessories on fabric that we feel preserving them, one of which is cute, designed buttons, I had a collection of buttons from my boys old clothes.
i kept thinking of utilizing these buttons somewhere and  gradually i came up with these beautiful art work.

Redecorating a lampshade

Material Required: Lampshade, fevicryl  3d liner,colorful buttons, fevicol

 I was inspired from a tree design in a  local magazine,Made a pencil sketch of the tree on the lampshade.
First i started highlighting the outline of the tree with a brown liner  as i wanted to show the tree trunk
pictures below explain the procedure.

To add some greenery to the tree I filled  in the tree branches with green 3d liner. picture below explains the same.

Allow it to dry for next 15-20 minutes.
you could easily find a set of colorful buttons at a novelty shop.
I found these buttons at a novelty shop in my area.

Once the tree is dried we can stitch the button as leaflets on the tree branches. Allow the buttons to stick properly . thus your lampshade is ready.

 We could use it as an artifact and also in the form of a decorative lampshade.

Chocolate bouquet

Hi there ,

Back Again after a long but blissful break. It was only when Amrita our smart  bakery chef came up with an idea of  chocolate flower bouquet.

I readily volunteered in her chocolate making art.Its a quick and beautiful make over  of chocolates to present our loved ones.

 All you will need will be: wooden skewers,green tape, kite paper, streamers, chocolate wrappers,scissor and  celofin paper.

Method : First roll the skewer with green tape to make the steams.

Now folder a kite paper into a triangle shape. In the picture below I have folded a rectangular paper into a triangle shape.

                                                  Roll the triangle into a conical shape.The picture below explains the same. hold the cone in shape by staples on the open ends.

  Wrap the chocolates with wrappers of your choice.

 Pierce the skewers in the center of the chocolate to hold the structure.

Now insert the skewer in the paper cone as shown in the picture.

Thus your flowers are ready.Now place them together and wrap them in bouquet style like the picture below.
